Fun, energy and passion are the fundamentals of my teaching, and over 22 years of experience has enabled me to finely tune this recipe for successful and enjoyable learning. My lessons are far from formulaic, but instead are based on getting the best out of each individual and their natural learning style. I have a first class BMus Honours degree and an A* in Music A-Level. I specialized in Jazz performance in America in my final year of my degree and also have a wealth of experience performing Jazz; playing lead saxophone in several jazz bands, and leading my own jazz trio on piano. Additionally, I have a strong classical music background. I hold an ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance, as well as a distinction in grade 8 piano, saxophone and singing. I currently run a 16-strong vocal group who meet weekly, and I am part of a 3-piece, 3-part-vocal-harmony band locally. I live by the sea in beautiful Cornwall where I work in primary and secondary schools, both private and state. I teach classroom and instrumental music to all levels and abilities. I also teach privately online (very popular at the moment). I am a classically trained teacher of jazz, classical and pop music, and have taught piano, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, singing and drums in both individual and group lesson settings. I love to teach all genres of music to all ages. I have also taught in the classroom (Key Stage 2 to A-Level) over the last 12 years. I was nearly put off music at a young age by a piano teacher who was rigid and allowed for little creativity or input from myself. My approach to learning is very different! If your aim is to learn your favourite songs then I will transcribe for you and get you rocking for your next family get together. If you want to achieve success in your music grades then the focus will switch. I well understand what it takes to achieve fast and sustained progress, and not just musically. I played for the Great Britain Ultimate Frisbee team for 10 years and competed in the World Games in Taiwan. A big part of it is, of course, relentless effort and deliberate practice. But having fun and enjoying yourself is also super important and will make the hard work much easier! For the last 22 years, I have been a full-time music teacher and musician, mostly in and around London, and more recently down here in Cornwall, since 2016. I teach up to diploma level on piano, saxophone, clarinet and flute, from both the classical and jazz exam syllabuses, as well as guitars (including ukulele and bass), drums and singing up to grade 5. I have a 100% career success pass-rate of a merit or above for all exams my pupils have entered. I can teach to any exam syllabus, classical or jazz, but particularly like using Trinity, ABRSM, Rock School and Trinity Rock and Pop. For the last 12 years, in schools, I have been teaching whole-class instrumental lessons on recorder, clarinet, flute, keyboard and ukulele. This has included teaching whole-class samba band and singing, and running weekly whole-school singing assemblies and termly music concerts, as well as planning whole-school music curriculum. Previously I have taught song-writing, harmony and music theory to GCSE and A-Level students. Above all else, my number one priority during my lessons is that my pupils are thoroughly enjoying themselves and making excellent progress. Music should be nothing but fun, first and foremost, or children just won’t want to practice and therefore won’t progress. I’ve known far too many children and adults over the years who have had such negative experiences with traditional, ridged and non-bending teachers that they have simply given up and have had no desire to ever come back to music. This is nothing short of a tragedy. I know I provide the polar opposite experience to this. I ensure that I enthuse and inspire each and every one of my pupils, and that my lessons are full of fun and enjoyment, encouragement and positivity, whilst being jam-packed with progress, development and rewarding learning at the same time. This combination ensures that each and every one of my pupils is eager to continue their musical journey with me, can’t wait to get home and practice, and thus make huge leaps forwards in their progress week by week. I believe I am an excellent teacher. I have always established great working relationships with my pupils and parents alike, which I believe to be one of the most important aspects of great teaching practice. I love to get my pupils involved in choosing some of the pieces they want to learn, and produce bespoke sheet music for each child, at any level, on any instrument. One week they could be playing Ed Sheeran, the next it could be the Pokemon theme! There are no limits. Regardless of their level and ability, I will write out music to suit each child’s very specific needs. I also can create backing tracks for my pupils to play along to at home. I believe in strong relationships, clear communication and high levels of organization, whilst incorporating a variety of wider aspects of music in my lessons too: Duet sight-reading together, classical, pop and jazz music, improvisation, piano accompaniment, singing, song writing, play-along backing tracks, group collaboration with other instrumentalists, playing by ear, ad libing and composition, to name but a few. What I Can Teach: Piano and Keyboard Saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder Guitar, bass guitar, ukulele Singing Drums Music notation using Sibelius Much technology using Garageband and Logic Songwriting and Composition GCSE and A-Level Music Grade 5 Theory Preparation Grade Exam Aural Test Preparation

Jazz Voice, Pop Vocals, Music Theater, Freestyle

I began in the entertainment business when I was 7 years old and appeared in the British Movie Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush in 1967. After trying several proper jobs I discovered that I was actually “allergic” to real work and at a very young age I decided to become a musician. I studied Musical Theater and acting for 4 years at the University Of Hertfordshire in the UK and subsequently acted in several UK TV shows and movies including The Young Americans with Harvey Keitel and Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone. I am an award-winning writer of Musical Theater winning the Vivian Ellis Best Composer Award along with my co-writers in 1996. My shows have been staged in the West End of London at the London Palladium and Her Majesty’s Theatre. In 1990 I wrote the million-selling hit single Dirty Cash/Money Talks, which got to number 1 in the UK charts and number 25 in the US Billboard. I have also had two number ones in the Billboard Club Chart. In 1993 Simon Cowell signed me as an artist to his Arista label in London. Three months later the label went into receivership. I often wonder what happened to that Cowell chap! I was subsequently signed to BMG then Sony records as a vocalist for the band Surreal Madrid. Sir Paul McCartney produced one of the Surreal Madrid tracks. A month later I had the privilege of singing back up vocals for Paul at a Buddy Holly tribute gig in Trafalgar Square London. My good friend Dean Collinson then invited me to join his newly formed backing agency and my first gig was to sing back up for the Spice Girls. I teach vocals in a fun and educative way. I offer the full Pop Star experience. As well as instructing students in the techniques of vocal production I also teach them about the recording process, song writing and performance. I record all my students and we are constantly in production working on and recording new songs. I am happy to teach Musical Theater, Rock, Pop and R&B. I am not a “cookie cutter” vocal coach. I understand that we are all different and techniques that work for one person may not work for another. I work on a student’s uniqueness and individuality so no two lessons are exactly the same. Two years ago one of my students Whitney Lynn Smith got through to the first round of American Idol. She is now working on her first CD in Nashville Tennessee. Another of my student’s Élan is just about to sign with Sony EMI. Mary Rose has been signed to One Source Talent in New York and 19-year-old male vocalist Jay Todd who has been a student of mine for about 6 months has just signed a development deal with Atlantic Records in Boston. I’m really looking forward to working with you. Mick

Classical Guitar, Flamenco Guitar, Electric Rock Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Freestyle, Classical Piano

Marco William Duranti has been described as “a versatile musician, a classical guitarist who likes to look outside his window”. The gift of composition has led him to seek ideas outside the normal parameters of the classical guitar. His principal aim has always been to create new compositions for the classical guitar, rather than adaptations of music from other instruments or sources. He says “I like to implement and adapt ideas from the outside, mould them and make them a property of the guitar, rather than make the guitar a property of the transcription". At the same time, Duranti turns this idea on its head by taking ideas that come from the guitar and adapting them to other musical contexts. This is frequently his method in composing film scores or rock music. This approach comes from his early learning and family roots: his family were artist-artisans and had, as friends, opera, rock and classical musicians, painters and sculptors. He has an enduring love of 60's and 70's music of various styles, including the most beautiful period of classical music recordings. Duranti says he does not seek originality in music, but believes in the uniqueness of a composition stemming from many factors, including the character and ability of the performer. Duranti’s ideas are underpinned by a solid practical and theoretical education: he describes a “progressive and passionate study of music theory and the guitar” at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under John Perrone and later in Rome under Mario Gangi. As a schoolboy, he also learned to play the blues from a street musician, giving him another perspective on the guitar. Duranti’s music career has suffered challenges and interruptions which have obliged him to explore new directions. He has made many original recordings, ranging from classical guitar to rock concept albums, and film music. He performed extensively in Italy for many years. Duranti says “this long journey is not over yet - I hope I will be able to produce more works and hopefully leave something worth mentioning!”

Classical Voice, Freestyle, Jazz Voice, Music Theater, Pop Vocals, Rap Style and Lyric Vocals

I began my music journey in my local church choir. At the time, I was learning music theory on my own and taking voice lessons from a reverend sister who helped shape my early vocal habits. With time, I grew into the role of choirmaster in my parish. I taught songs, led vocal exercises, and watched over the vocal health of every singer. During that period, I prepared the choir for an archdiocesan music competition. We won. That victory took us to the provincial level, then regionals, and finally the national stage. Hearing my own compositions performed and seeing the choir succeed pushed me to take music more seriously. I went deeper into my training. I studied more and took advanced voice lessons with experienced mentors. When I entered the university to study psychology, I was placed in charge of the student choir. I led that choir for five years. Those years were full of growth. I trained voices, taught music theory, wrote songs, and prepared the choir for major performances. We later placed at another national competition that brought together university choirs from across the country. Since graduating, I have remained active in choir training, voice coaching, and music composition. My background in psychology gives me an added edge. I understand performance anxiety. I know how fear shows up in the body and the voice. I help singers stay calm, focused, and confident on stage.

Electric Rock Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Ukulele, Freestyle, Classical Voice, Keyboard, Drums

I'm a 28y/o musician who started playing at 5~6y/o with a DIY drum kit and then moved to guitar lessons for over 10 years. Guided by Juanjo Miraglia, learned how to play popular genres such as classic rock, metal, reggae, rock & roll, blues, jazz, folk. After 20+ years of learning, I still want to keep learning and help other with my experience. I've also studied in the National University of La Plata, Argentina (Popular Music career), stayed there 3 years until 2020. Music is my passion, and I teach with that feeling. My goal is to ignite that same passion in other people to play music, and help them find themselves enjoying a blue note.
