I studied at Trinity College of Music where I gained a BMus (Hons) Degree and a Postgraduate Diploma. I was also awarded the Band/Kurtz award for viola playing, the Vera Kantrovich Prize for solo string playing and the Sir John Barbirolli Prize for string quartet. As a professional orchestral and chamber musician, I have worked with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, RTE National Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Scottish and BBC Concert Orchestras. I have also done session work performing alongside artists including McFly and various film and TV soundtracks. I have over 17 years experience teaching both the violin and viola from beginner up to diploma level and teach privately as well as in schools. I also teach music theory up to Grade 5 and beginner piano lessons.

I have a BA in Music and certificates in violin performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, the Conservatory at Rivers, the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music and Hampshire College, where I graduated in 1985. I have coursework in Jazz from UMass Amherst, Musicology and Composition from Amherst College, Music Theory from Mt Holyoke College, and violin from Smith College. I am a founder and President of Mandolin New England, a 501c3 nonprofit mandolin orchestra. I have been teaching adults and teenagers how to play fiddle, mandolin, tenor banjo and flatpicking guitar since 1986

I am a professional viola player with 15 years of experience in symphonic orchestra and chamber music projects with concerts all around the world (Greece,Germany, NYC, China). I have been classically trained from a young age at violin, singing, piano, music theory and harmony and viola. I have a Bachelor in Viola Performance and I have done seminars in Violin performance, Viola Performance and pedagogy. I have been teaching the viola and music theory privately and online for the past 8 years for all levels and ages. I also play the acoustic guitar, I write songs and I like producing music. I am passionate about technology and creating original educational material and helping students reach their musical goals!

Adam R. Sweet is a seasoned music educator, violinist, mandolinist, and wedding musician specializing in teaching adult students. With a BA in Musicology and a Master's in Ethnomusicology, he has spent decades refining his approach to helping adults learn and master traditional and roots music. Teaching adults presents both unique challenges and rewards—many come with deeply ingrained habits, yet they bring a level of passion, discipline, and life experience that makes the journey incredibly fulfilling. Adam focuses on intuitive playing, ear training, and confidence-building techniques tailored to each student’s needs. Adam has toured extensively across the U.S. and internationally, performing and teaching music in Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Egypt, South Korea, China, Canada, and throughout the U.S. His career spans multiple genres, including classical, folk, bluegrass, Celtic, and klezmer.

My name is Lara. I’m 26 years old and originally from Melbourne, Australia, and I’m currently based in New York City. I have eight years of experience teaching violin and viola to students from pre-school age through high school, both in person and online. As a teacher, my mission is to nurture each student’s confidence, creativity, and musical growth. I offer violin and viola lessons that are individualized to match every learner’s pace, personality, and goals. Member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra for 28 years, in the position of sub-leader of the second section of violins. I graduated from Private School of Musical Arts in Cyprus, which collaborated with the Athenian Conservatory ('Athinaiko Odeio') with distinction and first prize in violin performance in 1993. I have got 35 years of teaching experience, and my students have had great success in ABRSM London exams. I am able to teach all ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to advanced.

With more than six years of teaching experience, I shape every lesson around your unique needs and goals. My approach draws from traditional Russian school methods alongside Suzuki and Rolland principles, woven together with more contemporary, creative ways of learning. I also bring my active performing career directly into the classroom, making each session as alive and musical as possible. Stylistically, I enjoy working across different worlds, from classical to folk and other contemporary styles, allowing each student to discover the sound and repertoire that resonates most with them. Many of my students have gone on to achieve excellent results in ABRSM exams, and where that is a goal, we will build a clear and realistic plan together. I welcome students of all ages. For younger learners from around seven years old, having a parent present during lessons creates a calm and encouraging atmosphere and allows progress to continue naturally at home, even without any prior musical knowledge. For adults, I truly believe it is never too late to begin. Many of my adult students find that regular practice becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their week. As a First Class graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and an active performer with several chamber orchestras and the Quartet Calders, I bring professional experience directly into my teaching. I have had the privilege of learning from some of the most inspiring pedagogues working today, including Mimi Zweig, Lutsia Ibragimova, Dora Schwarzberg and Boris Kuschnir, and this informs everything I offer my students. After every lesson, you will receive tailored materials including practice plans, exercises, and listening recommendations to keep your progress steady and motivating between sessions.
